    Biography :

Carolyn Royer Spencer was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia. She now resides in Norfolk. Carolyn has two wonderful parents in their nineties, a son and daughter, and a lovely granddaughter named Leah. She received her Bachelor of Science degrees from Old Dominion University in Early Childhood/ Elementary Education and in Visual Arts – Kindergarten through Grade 12. Carolyn was especially influenced in art by one of her instructors, Charles Silbey. She taught Kindergarten, Title 1, First and Second Grades in Norfolk and Virginia Beach and was honored with the designation, “Career Teacher”. Always incorporating art into her lessons, she inspired her students to be creative.

At present, Carolyn works part-time in the public school system. She is still involved in education and is a member of the Cape Charles Historical Society, assisting as a Board member on matters of education. She has an interest in helping with the children’s hospitals. Her hobbies include golf and singing. She sings in a choir at her church and also sings for nursing home patients.

Carolyn wanted to help children learn how to deal with bullying issues that are so out of control. She co-authored and illustrated children’s creative, whimsical, fantasy books, spending countless hours on fresh, new, innovative characters that children love and can relate to personally. The books are written from a fresh perspective – one where ADULTS bully each other.

The first book in the children’s anti-bullying series, “Senor Smarty Pantaloons and the Mystery of the Missing Teachers”, which Carolyn co-authored and illustrated, is a colorful, creative mystery tale. The second and third works, “Lord Computesalot, Ruler of Aurora Bullyalis, and His Secret Quest to End Bullying” and its corresponding fun activity book, “Lord Computesalot’s Quintessential Quest to Banish Bullies” are a great resource for anyone dealing with children, especially guidance counselors, teachers, parents, and grandparents.

In addition to co-authoring and illustrating, Carolyn speaks on radio interviews, hosts anti-bullying assemblies, and does readings at local schools. An article on how these books help curb bullying appeared in “Close-Up Newsletter” for November, 2013, in the Dec. 7, 2013 issue of “The Virginian Pilot” newspaper, and in International Reading Association’s Nov./Dec. issue of “Reading Today.
