George C. Frison became Wyoming’s State Archeologist the same year he became the head of the University of Wyoming’s Department of Anthropology. During his tenure as state archaeologist, he made major contributions to Plains prehistory and is recognized worldwide for his research on paleo-Indians. In 1997 he was named to the National Academy of Sciences, and he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Society for American Archaeology in 2005.
