Dr. Hannedea Van Nederveen Meerkerk is, after serving 10 years as President, Secretary of the MoWIC Foundation, a non-profit heritage organization dedicated to researching the conservation of the cultural heritage of the former Geoctroyeerde West-Indische Company (1621-1675) and van de Tweede West-Indische Compagnie (1675-1792), together known by the name Dutch West India Company, the WIC. Predominantly, the Foundation archives historical and archaeological research in Brazil and is spearheaded by Hannedea, a renowned expert in urbanization, cultural relations, and architecture research.
 
Hannedea holds her PhD in Architecture and Urbanization from Technische Universiteit Delft. Frequently lauded for her work, she is the recipient of the prestigious Citizen of Honour of the Municipality of the Island of Itamaracá award and received the Brazilian decoration of Officer in the Order of Rio Branco.
 
Hannedea currently resides in Hotton, Belgium where, in her spare time, she enjoys art, violoncello, guitar and orchids. She admires specifically the works of Wim Quist and Coen Temminck Groll.
