The International Society of Business Leaders Recognizes Julio A. Baez


Julio A. Baez is a retired lawyer who dedicated more than 32 years of service to the United Nations as a Senior Legal Officer in the Office of Legal Affairs. Holding various positions in several duty stations around the world, Mr. Baez has always been intrigued by law and its direct affects within his own community and abroad. This curiosity led Mr. Baez to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from SUNY Stony Brook. The information gained from courses taken during his undergraduate studies spurred an even deeper desire to pursue a career in International Law. Mr. Baez went on to attain his French Law Licence, followed by a Masters in International Law, during which he prepared his thesis at the University of Salamanca School of Law in Spain, both from Université Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille III.

After completing his studies, Mr. Baez began an extensive career with the United Nations, initially as a Consultant for  the United  Nations Centre on Transnational Corporations. While  Mr. Baez’s primary work was done via the HQ in New York City for the Office of Legal Affairs as a lawyer, Mr. Baez traveled the globe to various duty stations such as the ones in Geneva, Rome, Laayoune, Vienna and Kosovo. While working on various UN initiatives, Mr. Baez garnered expertise in several areas, such as investment laws and regulations in French-speaking countries, treaty law, general institutional legal issues, drafting and reviewing legal documents and contracts, issues dealing with proper conduct and ethics of staff, the administrative law of International Organizations, international humanitarian law, human rights, knowledge of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods and its case law system, international maritime law, as well as experience with negotiations in an international setting. Mr. Baez has also taught public international law to students at the Masters level.

Ultimately, Mr. Baez has always worked as a team leader or as a team member, and is skilled at both. He is also perfectly fluent in 4 languages, English, French, Italian and Spanish, and is actively improving his knowledge of German at the Goethe Institut in Madrid. He enjoys mentoring and sharing his experiences with others. Mr. Baez is looking forward to networking and connecting with other like-minded professionals, and to gaining the recognition and credibility of being associated with the International Society of Business Leaders. Also, he has been affiliated with the NGO, KARIBU, in Madrid.  In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, listening to classical music and practicing Iyengar Yoga.
