The International Society of Business Leaders Recognizes Venkatachalam Shanmugasundaram
Venkatachalam Shanmugasundaram, a.k.a. “Shan” is the Founder and Principal of LakSaNA LLC, a management consulting firm where that focuses on helping companies comply with the recent wave of mandates requiring ISO standards in the world of quality, security, IT managed services, and staff augmentation. With more than 35 years of experience working in the defense industry Shan is an expert in quality assurance, risk management and fiscal leadership. He is adept at systems engineering, and understands that a management system is a tool—an ineffective tool can be reconfigured and reengineered to fit the size, complexity and goals of its organization.
After earning a BSEE from the University of Madreas, Shan went on to complete a postgraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Madras and a Master of Science in Engineering Sciences from Penn State University. He spent 25 years at DRS Universal Power Systems where he managed Quality Management Systems with ISO 9001 Certification, Continuous Improvement Programs, and Lean manufacturing projects. His project management experience also includes weapon system development, IR&D, and bids & proposals.
Shan served as a member of Air Force Corrosion Control Advisory Committee, as well as a member of Joint Reliability and Maintainability Evaluation Team for Tunner 60K Loader Program. As Chief Engineer for Pitman, division of Emerson Electric, he managed research & Development of material handling equipment for military. As a System Engineer, Shan managed the Reliability Growth Program, Safety Assessment programs, Total Owner Ship (TOC) projects, and Risk Management Program.
His professional certifications are extensive and PMP, Six Sigma Black Belt (ASQ Certified), ISO 9001:2008 Lead Auditor, ISO/IEC 27001:2013 Lead Auditor, and RBAQSA certified Associate Auditor. He also completed Introduction to CMMI for Development by CMMI Institute and Introduction to CMMI for Services by CMMI Institute. He was also awarded a patent for his load bearing pad arrangement in swing-around jib (patent no: 4,045,923).
